Nine nights, four cities, one very full memory card. Chongqing, Zhangjiajie, Shanghai and Beijing, escorted from Kolkata.
Chongqing is neon and river fog. Zhangjiajie is sandstone towers in cloud. Shanghai is glass and money and noise. Beijing is six hundred years of empire, laid out in straight lines. This itinerary gives each of them the time they actually need — and moves between them on China's high-speed rail rather than wasting days in airports.
Fly Kolkata → Kunming → Chongqing. The evening belongs to the river — the Chaotianmen cruise where the Yangtze and Jialing meet, with the whole city lit up on both banks.
A full day in the mountain city — including the famous monorail that runs straight through a residential block, and an evening show at the 1949 Grand Theatre.
Morning high-speed train to Zhangjiajie, then straight up Tianmen Mountain by the world's longest cable car — and out onto the glass walkway pinned to the cliff face.
The sandstone pillars that inspired Avatar's floating mountains, reached by the Bailong Elevator — a glass lift bolted to the outside of a cliff. The evening is Furong Town, lit up over its waterfall.
Transfer to Shanghai. Jade Buddha Temple and the classical pavilions of Yu Garden by day; the Bund and a Huangpu River cruise once the skyline switches on.
A free day — no guide, no coach. Shop Nanjing Road, ride to the Shanghai Tower observation deck, or spend the whole day at Disneyland Shanghai.
High-speed train north. Afternoon at the Summer Palace, then the hutongs and lakes of the Shichahai area — old Beijing, at walking pace.
The imperial city in one day — the world's largest public square, the palace behind it, and the temple where emperors prayed for good harvests.
A full day at the Great Wall of China. Bring the shoes you can climb in — the photographs are worth the steps.
After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the return flight to Kolkata via Kunming.
